January Thoughts
As I was trying to figure out what to name this email so someone actually opens it (thank you for opening it!), I was going through, "Jumping into January", "Leaping into the New Year", and so on... But I am not really feeling like I'm leaping, jumping, skipping, or any of those things myself, so that didn't feel exactly right. On the other hand, "peeking into", "cautiously tip-toeing in" doesn't really seem to align with my more optimistic view of the coming year either.
So, I decided to pick a card from my goddess deck for some guidance. If you are reading this, somehow this applies to your year. I got the card for Isis (mothering).
The little booklet that comes with the cards says the following:
"Isis has appeared in your life to tell you it is time for mothering. Have you been giving all your mothering energy away without keeping some for yourself? Have you taken on a new project or just had a new baby? Do you feel that something needs extra mothering, but you aren't up to it? Did your own mother or caregiver give you the mothering you needed? Isis says that it is important to get the mothering you need in order to heal past wounds. Everyone needs to be mothered, regardless of whether you are a maiden, mother, or crone."
Fascinating! I don't think I've ever pulled this card from the deck before, so definitely some changes are afoot. On a slightly different perspective note, I would say that we always get the mothering we need (to become the person we are), but most certainly not the mothering we want. So with this card coming up, it might be a good idea to reflect on the mothering you received, how it shaped you, but also to reflect on how you wanted to be mothered. What do you feel like was missing? Can you give that to yourself now? You might need to dig deep for that one, because if it was missing from your childhood, you might not have an easy go-to example of that behavior. Thankfully, as we turn into adults, we have more than our immediate families to draw on. We can have inspiration from many places, whether they are actual people we know, people online, movies, books, and so on.
And speaking of mothering, I am now a reluctant owner of a house goat. Yes, you read that right. Normally, I am very much a "breast is best" believer and keep all my goat babies with their mamas. However, this mama decided to plop her baby outside in the rain and in a puddle. Since the baby was tiny, he had trouble warming up and has been home with us since. I am very happy with little Oreo's progress. First, he's still alive! Which is not as much of a given as you would hope. Second, he has been gaining weight steadily, is getting around easier every day, and is now eagerly looking for me and his milk bottle. As we are in a cold spell for next 10 days with below freezing temperatures the whole time, I am uncertain on when he'll go out to be with the rest of the herd. I'm also not positive that he'll be able to switch from the bottle to his mama. My understanding is that it can be difficult for babies to make the switch. So we will just have to wait and see what happens with our unexpected little house guest. There is a picture at the very end of this email where little Oreo makes his debut.
I am almost completely caught up on my Yearly Tarot Readings, so if you purchase one, you will have the reading in few days. It takes forever to upload the videos and since I don't do it that often, I just haven't figured out if there is a better way of doing those. Though honestly, I also don't have it in me to do more than 2 readings a day at most, so there's that too.
I am hoping all is well in your world and you get some time to ruminate on the whole mothering concept. And if that is something I can help you with, or anything else that might trouble you, I do offer online and in-person sessions.
Here's to being the best mothers to ourselves!
XOXO,
Olga
Little Oreo on Monday, 12/30. He was born on Sunday, 12/29, but I was too apprehensive to be taking pictures as I wasn't sure he'd live. He was just 1lb and 13oz! He is now a whooping 2lbs and 4oz :) I weigh him every morning to see how big of a bottle of milk he should have.
